Artists for Artists (1986)

Artists for Artists is a catalogue designed by Carol Wells with typography by Michael Corris. The catalogue reproduces more than 130 works of art that were placed in auction in order to raise funds to expand tenant assistance services, to educate the public on a new piece of legislation that was designed to protect artist-tenants in New York from unfair eviction, and to direct landlords to bring these unregulated artist-occupied units up to residential code. The exhibition and auction was organized by the Lower Manhattan Loft Tenants and the Brooklyn Loft Tenants; both organizations were part of a city-wide coalition of tenants’ rights organizations. The exhibition took place at the Charles Cowles Annex Gallery, NY, NY  and the auction was conducted on October 14, 1986.
